A damaged car, swept by the water to a "standing" position against a tree trunk on the bank of the Ahr river at Bad Neuenahr, Germany, July 18, 2021. An unprecedented downpour led to flash floods in the West German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. The heavy stream in some areas devastated whole villages, causing severe damage to infrastructure. Current reports indicate more than 150 people are dead and about a hundred still unaccounted for.
