Liesel Schwarzmann cleans her childhood home, her 85 year-old mother was in the house's second floor when the water hit the village of Schuld, Germany, July 18, 2021. An unprecedented downpour led to flash floods in the West German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. The heavy stream in some areas devastated whole villages, causing severe damage to infrastructure. Current reports indicate more than 150 people are dead and about a hundred still unaccounted for.
